Imagine a society where everyone is separated into sects based on their personalities, potentially being split from their families. Imagine a society where being different is not an option. Now imagine this happens here, in a post-apocalyptic Chicago. Divergent, which hits Navy Pier IMAX on March 21, is just that.

Based on a New York Times best seller, Divergent follows a teen named Tris who has been deemed “divergent.” After not being able to fit into any of the groups in society, she is forced to fend for herself. The author, Veronica Roth, wrote the teen thriller while attending Northwestern in Evanston, just north of the city. Having incorporated much of Chicago itself into her writing, the movie brought filming to Navy Pier in April 2013.

Watching the trailers, you might have noticed some familiar sites; however, it won’t look much like the Pier you know and love. The movie also makes use of other iconic Chicago locations such as the Willis Tower.

We are definitely excited to see our city transformed in the movie! Take a look at the newest trailer and see which Chicago locations you can spot!

Come see Tris’s journey through our re-imagined city at Navy Pier IMAX. The post-apocalyptic society appears to be no match for her, and you’ll see every detail of a futuristic Chicago projected on the 400-foot screen at our IMAX theatre!

Are you excited to see Divergent? How do you think the movie will stand up against the novel?
