6f6a0511ad5eb985280d6a21b34d7891_XLHappy New Year, Chicago! And what a year it’s been! Though we’ve been around for about 98 years now, we’re pretty sure 2013 was the best one yet. (Isn’t that always the way?) We’re so excited for all 2014 has in store, but before we put 2013 to bed, it only seems fitting to take a look back at all the fabulous events and activities that took place here at Navy Pier in 2013.

Through winter, summer, spring, and fall, the action never stops here at the Pier; we always have something going on, no matter the season! Things really kicked off in 2013 with Swing into Spring which transformed our Family Pavilion into an old-time town square. Between the Chicken or the Egg Orchestra jamming on the music stage and the Easter Bunny hopping around and posing for photos, our Family Pavilion was filled with family-friendly fun well into April.

One of the best memories of 2013 was when Cirque Shanghai brought Dragon’s Thunder to the Pier! From May to the beginning of September, Pepsi Skyline Stage was ablaze with expert displays in the arts of tumbling, juggling, balancing, and more. With acts like the “Gravity Swings” and the motorcycle troupe “Imperial Thunder,” this certainly was an enthralling show for audiences of all ages!

In August, we proudly welcomed a fleet of majestic and historic tall ships from around the world for Tall Ships Chicago 2013 presented by Pepsi! This marvelous maritime festival featured a spectacular Parade of Sail kick-off followed by the opportunity to walk the decks, tour the ships, and even book a Sail Away Cruise for a truly unique experience.

In October, the Pier was haunted by werewolves, vampires, zombies, and a cast of other equally spine-chilling characters as the award-winning The Fear Haunted House returned for another spooky season. Whether you attended the aggressive adult-themed version at night or the low-scare, lights-on attraction during the day, you were sure to have a frightfully fun time!

Our grand finale of the year, Winter WonderFest started in early December and has taken us straight into 2014! The 13th season of this epic indoor winter wonderland has truly been bigger and better than any before, with exciting new rides and attractions like the Hot Cocoa Cups and the Ice Line Express Zip Line alongside old favorites like the Chicago Blackhawks Indoor Ice Skating Rink and the indoor Ferris wheel. Winter WonderFest is still bringing the holiday cheer through January 12, so stop by if you haven’t yet (or if you’re ready for round two)!

There you have it—our year at Navy Pier in review! Even with all that happened in 2013, we still have so much to look forward to in the year ahead! Between the rest of Winter WonderFest and Snowglobe Live!, Strictly Sail Chicago, Snow Days Chicago, Neighborhoods of the World, and the Chicago Flower and Garden Show (and that’s just winter and spring), 2014 is already shaping up to be one for the books! Stay in the loop on all our upcoming special events and definitely plan to visit Navy Pier this year, because 2014 is going to give 2013 a run for its money.

What was your favorite memory from the Pier in 2013? What Navy Pier events are you most looking forward to in 2014?
