Chicago Flower & Garden Show | Navy Pier

Sometimes it feels like winter’s never going to end. We’re enchanted by it at first, but once January hits, we’re ready for spring to hurry up already.

At the Pier, we love to celebrate all seasons, but there’s a part of us that longs for those warm days spent relaxing on the outdoor patios along Dock Street.

Our little glimmer of hope comes right around the beginning of March each year. Do you know what we’re referring to? Think nature, lots of color, great aromas. Need another hint? This event is our annual celebration of springtime’s bounty! Still not sure? We’re talking about the Chicago Flower & Garden Show, of course!

The Chicago Flower & Garden Show comes to Navy Pier, March 9-17, and as in years past promises to be an absolutely breathtaking display of gardens created by a number of local businesses and organizations.

This year’s theme is “The Art of Gardening;” expect to be wowed by floral arrangements and landscape displays that prove that gardening is so much more than a hobby and a way to increase the property value on your home!

Learn how to garden, how to turn your homegrown veggies, fruits, and herbs into a gourmet dish to be proud of, and the secrets behind creating a diverse garden for small spaces and all seasons! Bring the kids, too, and let them loose in the Kid’s Activity Garden where they’ll get their hands dirty and create something to take home!

The 2013 Chicago Flower & Garden Show is open Monday-Saturday from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and Sunday from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Individual and group tickets can be purchased in advance.

And make sure you put the annual Evening in Bloom Preview Benefit on your calendar! This year’s benefit is on Friday, March 8 from 6 p.m. to 9 p.m. and features cocktails, hors d’oeuvres, live entertainment, and plenty of time to explore within the show!

I missed this wonderful event last year and don’t want to miss it again this year. So, I’ll put it on my calendar and post it to friends & family on Facebook. Let’s all survive this coldest week of the year by thinking SUMMER and get set by going to Navy Pier 3/9-17. I will bring my camera and notebook.

Good thinking, Robert! Nothing like some beautiful flowers to take away some of the winter blues.
