Who doesn’t love a good boat race on a sunny afternoon? It’s safe to say everyone does! The Chicago Match Cup Race will be returning this summer to Navy Pier and will set sail alongside the majestic Tall Ships® Chicago 2013 presented by Pepsi® festival! Brought to you by The Chicago Match Race Center, the Chicago Match Cup is the only U.S. stop on the Alpari World Match Racing Tour and is one event you and your family won’t want to miss!
The race contains twelve of the world’s best teams, who will sail against each other more than 100 times just feet from the edge of Navy Pier. The teams will compete for a share of the $100,000 prize money purse and points earned toward the Tour’s overall world Championship, worth $1.75 million in prize money. Races will occur August 7-11 with the finals and awards ceremony taking place on Sunday afternoon at 2p.m and will be broadcasted in over 140 countries!
Fans are invited to watch the teams practice in a free preview on Wednesday, August 7 after the East End Plaza opens to the public for Parade of Sail tall ship viewing. Then, August 8-11, a $5 General Admission to Tall Ships® Chicago includes the Chicago Match Cup and access to the festival grounds. Throughout the competition, there will be special viewing areas set up to ensure front row seats, different live commentary, Jumbotron viewing, meet-and-greets with professional sailors, and family-friend games!
If you are looking for a VIP-like experience at the races, sit in the Windy City Lounge. Located on the third floor balcony rooftop of the Navy Pier ballroom, these seats will provide a spectacular view of the race. These seat tickets are currently $50 each or a bundle of ten for $400, and include food and drink available for purchase, a Chicago Match Cup T-shirt, 2 drink tickets/day, a boarding pass for Tall Ships Chicago, and discounted hotel pricing.
