Blink and you might miss them! Navy Pier serves as the official venue for Cirque Shanghai’s lauded “Dragon’s Thunder” over the summer months, but that doesn’t mean the cast can’t be spotted elsewhere. Cirque’s schedule of special appearances includes two of the best that a Chicago summer has to offer. After stops at Taste of Chicago, Chinatown’s annual Dragon Boat Races at Ping Tom Memorial Park, and a performance at Daley Plaza, Cirque makes hits the road for two events at the end of July and the beginning of August.
- July 21 at 11:30 a.m. – Chinatown Summer Fair
- August 9 at noon – Chicago Sister Cities International Festival
The Chinatown Summer Fair remains a must-do over the summer, with traditional Chinese dance, music, and a giant celebration of centuries-old traditions. Cirque’s visit includes a memorable, entirely FREE performance. Like the Summer Fair, Chicago Sister Cities hosts a smorgasbord of Chicago’s vast ethnicities and cultural traditions.
And if you happen to be booked on those days, we suggest you try the alternative: The Navy Pier Date Night Package is an easy, bang-for-your-buck offer of late-night excitement for love birds. It includes one Emperor’s Court ticket to see “Dragon’s Thunder,” a mini golf voucher, a Shoreline Sightseeing Skyline Lake Tour voucher, champagne, and two hefty scoops of Haagen-Dazs ice cream.
