The age-old tale of ‘Jack and the Beanstalk’ is finally hitting the big screen in a brand new fantasy and adventure film titled Jack the Giant Slayer, and if you’re anything like us, you can’t wait to see it here at Navy Pier IMAX!
In the familiar English folktale you might remember from your childhood, a boy named Jack lives with his widowed mother. The pair’s only source of income is a single cow, and when the cow stops producing milk, it falls on Jack’s shoulders to travel to the market to sell it.
On the way to the marketplace, Jack runs into an old man who offers “magical” beans in exchange for the cow. We all know the next part of the story: Jack’s mother, furious when her son returns empty-handed but for a pocket full of beans, throws the beans out the window which overnight grow into an immense beanstalk, and up the stalk Jack goes!
That’s the fairytale you know now, but just wait until you see the new version envisioned by Jack the Giant Slayer director, Bryan Singer!
Singer’s film opens with a young farmhand named Jack accidentally opening a gateway between his world and a fearsome race of giants and reigniting an ancient war. The giants hunger for a land they lost centuries ago and are willing to do anything to reclaim it. It falls on Jack to lead his people in a fight for the kingdom and for the love of a kidnapped princess.
Jack the Giant Slayer is playing now at the Navy Pier IMAX Theatre, and of course it’s being shown in 3D—is there any other way to experience the film’s amazing special effects!?
And the fun doesn’t have to end after the movie! Try our restaurants, stay for a few drinks, and take that ride on the Ferris wheel that you’ve always dreamed of!
