Come March 18, 2012 to celebrate Mexico’s vibrant culture full of delicious food, dancing, colorful and traditional attire.  There are many traditional dishes all unique to Mexican culture but there are also many dishes and spices unique only to various parts of Mexico. The northern part of Mexico is known for its “carne asada” or grilled meat which is thin beef steak.  While in the Yucatan there is a distinctive sweetness top their cuisine rather than spice.  The Southeastern part of Mexico is known for its spicy vegetables and its many chicken-based dishes.  And the Southeastern part of Mexico has more of a Caribbean twist to it due to its location.  From spicy to salty and sweet come and have a taste of the many foods and traditions that make up Mexico’s cuisine!

Mexican cuisine is known for its many flavors, colorful decoration and its many spices and ingredients.  Most of the ingredients are native products of Mexico based mainly on corn, beans, squash and chili peppers but some ingredients like rice and the many spices that make up Mexican cuisine we know today are worldwide.  Mexico’s cuisine has evolved through the years because of blending indigenous cultures, with international elements added after the 16th Century.

Here in Chicago, there are several Mexican neighborhoods but by far the most authentic is Little Village.  Little Village is the heart of Chicago’s Mexican-American community embodying all of the various authentic cuisine, music and clothing.  This neighborhood has evolved over generations to what it is today.  Experience all of this with Navy Pier under one roof and see what beautiful Mexico has to offer!
