Germany's Best and Oktoberfest at Navy Pier

September 23 – October 10

Sun -Tues from 11 am to 9 pm

Wed – Sat from 11 am to 10 pm

Get ready to “O’zapft is!” Pronounced…well you’ll have to come and find out at the 1st Annual Germany’s Best and Oktoberfest! As its name suggests, it combines two distinct yet closely intertwined aspects of German culture to bring you the ultimate hands-on history lesson.

Germany’s Best lets you dive in head first (or rather Kopf first) and see a showcase of modern Germany’s technological marvels, including strengths in innovative manufacturing, green technologies, arts and education/training. This refers to Germany itself as a prime location for investment, study, work, and quality of life, as well as to “Germany within the US.”

Ready, set, Oktoberfest at Navy Pier!

In tandem, Navy Pier’s Oktoberfest will feature the much-celebrated German traditions that have existed in Munich for centuries. German American Services, Inc. will be working directly with partners both locally and in Germany to bring you a truly authentic German experience.

Festivities will begin with a Grand Opening Event on Friday, September 23rd and continue in the Oktoberfest tents, which will be made to mimic the ones that are found in Munich! We expect to see you all out there in your lederhosen – what are lederhosen, you say?

Well, to add to the authentic experience, waitresses in dirndls and waiters in lederhosen will roam the tents as you sit back and enjoy the smell of authentic German cuisine being prepared by the vendors. It’s all here, smelling delicious and waiting for you! Come find out what your favorite German food is…

Live music and groups welcome, mark you calendar for Oktoberfest!

As if you didn’t already think you were in Munich with your freunde celebrating Oktoberfest, live music will be playing from the center stage that will feature traditional and modern German sounds. And just like the real deal in Munich, groups and corporations can reserve a private table (stammtisch) to entertain clients or guests from out of town.

If your goal is to have fun and leave with a deeper knowledge of Germany’s culture, technology, companies, and other initiatives, Germany’s Best and Oktoberfest at Navy Pier is the place to be!

Went Saturday afternoon. The atmosphere, food, beer and servers were great. Enjoyed the German music from the Phenix band. When the Big Shoes(Big Foot?) band started playing around 5pm, that made us leave. Loud rock and blues music is not what should be played at an Oktoberfest. Some other venue, yes, but not there.

      Hi Marty,

I am the leader of Big Shoes and I’m sorry that you left, but I completely understand what you’re saying. We were booked as the only non-German band in the entire fest. I, as a leader, could not reinvent the band in realtime to be appropriate to our surroundings. We are a very good band, we are not a German band.

We had a fun time. Come see us in the future.

Is it necessary to make reservations? Or can people simply show up? What is the cost?

Why is there no 2nd Annual Oktoberfest in 2012? Please don’t make me go to one those suburban fests that serve lousy beer and actually sell domestic beer. 2011 made my expectations for future Oktoberfests have a really high standard.

Last year’s Oktoberfest at Navy Pier was a big success, but the Pier decided to focus their efforts elsewhere this fall. Harry Caray’s Tavern at the Pier is holding their own celebration starting next week Saturday which will definitely be worth a stop by (more details here, including menu: http://www.harrycaraystavern.com/navy-pier/upcomingevents.php). Otherwise there’s a nice little Oktoberfest celebration going on a little later this week at Federal Plaza: http://blog.conciergepreferred.com/chicago/oktoberfest-returns-to-chicago/. Enjoy wherever you end up going to celebrate!
