SOFA CHICAGO 2012 | Navy Pier

Just as the EXPO Chicago hubbub is dying down, another incredible art show heads to Navy Pier. SOFA CHICAGO 2012, an arts expo devoted to Sculpture Objects and Functional Art & Design, opens November 2 and runs through November 4 in Navy Pier’s Festival Hall.

Presented by the Art Fair Company and celebrating its 19th year, SOFA CHICAGO offers the very best in contemporary art and design, sculpture, functional art, and other non-traditional and outsider art.

For three days, Festival Hall will be filled with artwork of all shapes, sizes, and varieties from over 50 galleries with international roots. Think glasswork, jewelry, and carved wood; just make sure you don’t mistake that wooden sculpture for an actual bench! And if the artwork itself wasn’t enough, SOFA CHICAGO, the largest and longest running Chicago art fair, will also include a great lecture series and many special exhibits, such as artist signings as well as hot glass blowing demonstrations, brought back by New York’s Corning Museum of Glass!

SOFA CHICAGO has a special opening night preview on November 1. The First Choice Preview Gala, by invitation only, runs from 5 p.m. – 7 p.m.; later, from 7 p.m. to 9 p.m., the night opens itself up to the general public. Tickets to this exclusive event cost $50 and include wine, hors d’ouevres, and the chance to rub elbows with some notable collectors, museum curators, artists, designers and architects, and high society folks.

To see SOFA CHICAGO during normal hours, come by November 2-4. The show runs 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Friday and Saturday and 12 p.m. to 6 p.m. on Sunday. Tickets can be ordered in advance or bought at the door. General admission is $15, which includes admission to all galleries, special events, and lectures! Three-day passes and discounted student, senior, and group passes are also available. And because SOFA CHICAGO wants you to bring along the entire family, children under 12 get in free!
