It feels like just yesterday that we made the big announcement that Tall Ships® would be returning to Chicago in August. And now we’re less than two months away!
Are you getting pumped for the big TALL SHIPS CHALLENGE®?
Here’s what’s in store for you:
On Wednesday, August 7, Tall Ships® Chicago 2013 presented by Pepsi® kicks off with an amazing Parade of Sail. Gather with us from 2-5 p.m. as the ships sail in and dock at Navy Pier. Bring the whole family because this day of the event is completely free!
Or buy tickets for an experience unlike any other and set sail with a Tall Ship during the Parade of Sail! This once in a lifetime experience puts you right in the middle of the parade aboard the Appledore IV, Denis Sullivan, Friends Good Will, Lynx, Hindu, Pride of Baltimore II, Red Witch, or Halie & Matthew for four hours! You’ll enjoy lunch out on Lake Michigan and will receive a souvenir Tall Ships Passport Book, a Ferris wheel ticket, and a parking pass—everything you need to make your day fabulous from start to finish!
If you can’t make it down for the Parade of Sail, the festival runs through August 11, which should give you plenty of time to plan a trip to see the Tall Ships.
Buy tickets for a 75-minute or two-hour Sail Away excursion! Hop aboard the Appledore IV, Denis Sullivan, Friends Good Will, Lynx, Hindu, Red Witch, Halie & Matthew, or Chicago’s own Tall Ship Windy for a cruise out on Lake Michigan that you won’t soon forget.
Or if you prefer to keep your feet firmly planted on shore, stick to General Admission, which allows you one day’s access to the festival grounds, or better yet, Dockside Boarding Admission, which gives you access to the festival grounds AND a dockside board and tour of any of the ships in port like Norway’s SS Sorlandet or Canada’s Pathfinder.
And you definitely won’t want to miss out on all the excitement of the Chicago Match Cup! Head out on August 6 for a special practice preview and the inaugural Chicago Sports Commission Charity Sports Challenge. Or join us August 7-11 when the competition really heats up with more than 100 races between the 12 teams, all vying for a spot in the Finals.
The Match Cup will conclude on August 11 at 2 p.m. with the Finals and an Award Ceremony broadcast across the world in more than 140 countries—talk about putting Chicago on center stage.
Tall Ships Chicago is going to be one incredible event and we hope you join us!
