Unboxed! | CCM

Just about every parent has had the experience of buying their child an expensive present only to watch the child ignore the actual gift and play for hours with the box. Navy Pier’s new exhibit, Unboxed: Adventures in Cardboard, celebrates the joy that cardboard boxes have brought to countless numbers of birthday boys and girls and playful cats.

Running August 28-May 5 at the Chicago Children’s Museum at Navy Pier, Unboxed encourages children and adults alike, of all ages and abilities, to stretch their creativity in a hands-on museum setting.

Exhibit goers will be astounded by the gigantic 3-D mural and nine-foot-tall Box Giant made out of, what else, cardboard boxes! Venturing further into the exhibit, visitors will discover a play zone within the Tiny Town, real adventure in the Box Maze with its many twists, turns, and tunnels, and creative vision at the Cardboard Studio, a workshop made for future architects and engineers. Equipped with tubes, supplies, child-safe tools, and boxes galore, visitors to the Cardboard Studio will have the chance to imagine and then build their own cardboard creations from castles with moats to futuristic automobiles to miniature Willis Towers.

Unboxed is free with museum admission. The Chicago Children’s Museum is open daily from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. More details about hours and ticket prices can be viewed here.
